Veritas Land started promoting the site through the early stages of the Guildford Borough Council Local Plan in September 2013 when the ‘Strategy and Sites Issues and Options Review’ was published and then  in June 2016 in response to the Regulation 18 Consultation Statement.

The site was subsequently allocated in the Guildford Borough Council Local Plan which was adopted by the Council on 25 April 2019.

The site is part of a significantly larger strategic allocation under Policy A31:  Land to the south and east of Ash and Tongham which is identified for approximately 1,750 homes, including some self-build and custom house building plots (C3)
Whiteways Cottage is circa 2.6 ha. The house and immediately surrounding gardens are about 0.2 ha and the balance of the land is split in to paddocks and stables.

The site can accommodated approximately 60 houses.
